evaluation

On Wednesday we have finally completed our 5 weeks of work with creating a quiz show as a group we had been given task and overall with all that work we had done I think we had done very well the show went down successfully although there were major problems that we had sorted out quickly and had achieved all our deeds. But there were many things we could have improved but with such short time with rehearsals there was not much we could have done.
What could have been improved?

ü More group rehearsals with the main contestants and also the host
ü Everyone could have got on well instead of acting childish
ü Listen to what all group members had to say

Vision mixerI was the vision mixer for the second half of the show. I had found this a very easy equipment I had had got the hang of it when switching to the next camera to the next. However, it was not that easy to it was a thought it may have been with listening to the director, the assistant director and also concentrating on the show was a lot of work to do but in the end it was success. I had had different varieties of buttons to press such as there were camera’s 1-4 at the start and the end of the show I had to press button 7 which was a black screen and button 5 was for the VT video’s.Assistant floor managerthis job I had helped the floor manager in many different ways such as helping greet the audience into the studio. Explaining to the host exactly what was going on with the scores and exactly where to look when finalizing the show with the team scores. I had also made sure that all the contestants were ok with what was going on. This job was not hard at all as I had helped out with the floor manager I had to use great listening skills and did what I was told.
The show was a success with all the editing done it will come out perfect when watching it back last Wednesday there were many things that had occurred such as the sound operator at some points the sound was either to loud or to quiet the host was not at much help as he had raised his voice very often so it was hard for the sound operators to get it equal not only the host it was also the contestants at some point when they laughed and also sometimes when they had spoken.
Throughout the show I think the VT’s were done well before the actual show there were minor problems that had occurred but in addition I think it was done vet well not only the video’s the title and also the team work Ryan and Chris had done to get it up and ready. The script was also done well but before the show there was a mess up but in the end it had come out very well.
If we had to do this show again there would many things I would change such as the chairs I would not have chairs that have wheels on it because all the contestants were moving which made it hard for all the camera’s to get a good shot of them.

There was great team work throughout the whole work at first we all were in groups of fours and five given all different types of work to do such as:
ü Arts creative team
ü Pro-production team
ü Concept team
ü Technical

In the end we all had gathered our work together and had each other out I had helped the arts team out as most of the pupils did not turn up but then as a whole class we all help paint the set and also helped each other. I was the technical so throughout the weeks I had done the script pointing out what camera’s should be where and also I had also helped my other team member as a group of four we had brought our own questions and also what round we had volunteered to do we were TV I had to know what group was after man and also what group was before me. So I could acknowledge how to start my script and also how to finish it. In this piece of work I have a vast majority of things such as:
ü working together makes a perfect piece of work
ü what quiz shows are really like
ü how much you have to do to get a perfect show
ü all the levels of the camera’s
ü how perfect the sound has to be
ü how to work the vision mixer
ü what colours of clothing you can and can not wear when on live TV
ü how the floor manager works

health and safety

Health and safety was one of the things we had a discussion about as there was many things that had been dangerous about such as the cables that were hanging around also the lightings there was also many other things we had to consider about such as ladders that was hanging around in the studio. The teacher had told us about the sensible thing we had to do if the fire alarm bell had gone off and also how to exit the building sensibly and quietly.

what i did?

Vision mixer

I was the vision mixer for the second half of the show. I had found this a very easy equipment I had had got the hang of it when switching to the next camera to the next. Assistant floor manager

In this job I had helped the floor manager in many different ways such as helping greet the audience into the studio. 7th - 9th decmeber

Monday 7th December

Today was the day to get everything together because in the afternoon we had rehearsals with Pete and Kate; in the morning with John sayward we had re-arranged the set again and had painted the set a little bluer with paint included we had painted the TV yet again turning it into a brown colour. After a short break, John had gave put on an analysis sheet we had watched have I got news for you again and this time had to carefully pay attention to how many camera’s there are on the show and how the set is laid out? With this there were more questions to answer.
Today was a 15 minutes shorter break we had done rehearsals at 1pm with Pete and Kate some of the class members were contestants of the rehearsals. With all of us to get our hands on camera’s and sound mixer etc. I was in the first half on the vision mixer which was not to hard as I had to concentrate on what the director, the assistant director and also the show so I was multi tasking. I thought I had made an excellent job and had achieved whatever Pete had told me. After the 15 minutes break I was back on the vision mixer with rehearsals over awe had watched the playback and had talked about today’s rehearsal after that the day was over and the next day was rehearsals again.

Tuesday 8th December

Today we were in at 1pm and with John Dempsey we had done rehearsals again this time I was an assistant floor managing in which I had to write down the scores down for the host for each round. Kirsten was the floor manager I had helped in many ways, and I had helped her invite the audience in and had greeted them. I had also made sure the host was OK and had known what was happening with the score board. In the second half I was back on the vision mixer we didn’t quiet finish the show on time today but with the Wednesday ahead we knew we had a lot to get on with.

Wednesday 9th December

With the day ahead of us we got in at 10.30 and had cracked on with the rehearsals performing the first half and little bit of the second half through to lunch. With te second half there was a little trouble as some of the VT’S did not quite work. After lunch will 2.15 we had rehearsed the second half again and had sorted the major problems out. After the break it was action time we had performed our show through out and had not stopped. For the show the first half I was the floor manager assistant and for the second half I was the vision mixer. After the show we had watched how well the show went and also had talked about our progress.

Thursday 10th December

Today we were in at 1pm and the post production people had edited the shoe with a little help from the group and then with Kate as a class we had analysed our show.

helping out

As a group we all had sorted out what we were all going today Thursday 19th November we all helped out the art crew with painting we had painted the set blue also dealing with the script as a group the technical and content producers had got together and decided how the script was going to be and exactly where the camera’s were going to be by putting this down as a group with all the other groups George has taken the lead to deal with the script so all I had to do was to email my script to him and that was it after that I had helped the arts painting.

Today Monday 30th November we had been given the opportunity to help the arts to finish the set and also get up to date with our blogs and also the essay we were given with this included we had to complete our q cards.

notes

On Monday with John sayward we had looked and explored more about the TV industry and studied more on the openings of TV quizzes also with Kate that afternoon we had studied what aspects there was to all three programs we had looked at.
On Tuesday with john Dempsey we had looked at where the producers, floor managers etc. stand in the studio.
We were told the symbols of camera’s and also microphones in peters lesson a triangle stands for a camera and also little line with a circle at the bottom or top represents a microphone.

in our groups

As calls we were all split up in groups of 4 and also 5 the idea of the work was meant to be set up our own class assignment to create a funky style of a quiz show it had to be serious but also it could be a little funny at times. Our topic was on about the media so there were five different topics we had to pick from and they were:
• Movies
• TV
• Music
• Internet
• Quick fire
So as a we were set in our groups after the half term we all had picked as a group to do TV as it was a good choice we would have different aspects in the quiz which relate to all TV program’s as a group me, Lucy, loewen and Laurie had a vote on what questions that we shall be asking. We as a class will not be hosting the show or taking any part of the show just creating it we will decide on how we want our questions to be answered as well. Such as comparing the two celebrities’s who is different? And we will show the two celebs on the back of the screen. We also had to decide on what kind of music we would have as an intro to our round. We are after the movies round so we also had to write our own script out and also the running time explaining how long our round will last and also how long they have to answer the questions not only that but how long the host has to speak to make it exactly five minutes.
In a group we have different jobs we all get on with for instance I am the technical producer, while Lucy is dealing with all the set so she is the arts producer, loewen is the content producer and Laurie is dealing with the post production getting all the clips we need and burning them on CD. All the other groups have the same as us so at the end of the day were all working altogether.

team work

After coming back from the half term we were all set to finally get together in our groups and also getting our work together on Wednesday we had a lecture on how all the technical equipment work and also what they are. They also had a little play around with all the equipment as Pater had also put us in a group of 5 that day to teach us exactly how all the equipment works. By Wednesday I knew what the equipment was and also a little about the way they are used and also how they are use how does it connect with our work? There are many things we had looked at in the studio such as a division mixing panel :
• It controls all camera’s
• There’s black always at the end
• Top button is a bus
• The bottom button is a preview bus
Monitor:
• Always shows camera 1
• Shows the out put of camera 2, 3, 4 etc.
Other pointers:
• The director see’s all the camera’s by sitting in the stereo mixing room
• The red light is always on when the camera is on air
• Vision switching

Studio pedestal:
• Stand in front of the cable tie when on the camera
• Never turn to pan 90 degree’s
Sound mixing text:
• Don’t play on the buttons
Individual channel:
• Control them as a mass or individual
A quality control tells you what kind of music you have.
Camera’s have a focus control, exposure control and also bright or dull.
